How do you automate an appliance that’s not smart?

For example, for a dishwasher that's not smart, you can attach the Plugee or the Switchee (the latter is wall mounted). This will allow you to handle the on/off part, while also monitoring the energy consumption. Some dishwashers though, will allow you to program what you need and then cut the power supply (you would do this through the Plugee) and turn it back on remotely, either through a schedule or manually when you want, through the app.

The energy monitoring allows you to know when the dishwasher stopped, prevents it from overpowering the engine if something is not working properly and if there are high peaks in energy usage. The Plugee will help you identify how much money you're spending on running the dishwasher and Webee will provide you with ways of saving money.

Some dishwashers can also become smart through our Hive M3 boards, but in order to do that, you will need to have some technical knowledge on the matter.
